Old North Karibu is a place where all ages play! A hidden gem set alongside a Dam on the Karibu Farm in Umhlali Kwazulu Natal. The location is perfect for all who visit, as it takes you out of the hustle and bustle of traffic, and everyday life. There is ample parking and the Dam area offers a beautiful bush type view and environmental ambiance, that is perfect for any type of event – particularly Birthday Parties and Family Days with Music. The kids are catered for with a Trampoline, a Wooden Adventure Structure and for those special occasions, a Jumping Castle. We are also a Pet Friendly environment for Dogs on leashes and Doggie Bags are provided to keep the area clean. Adults are catered for with a wide range of beverages and live entertainment on certain evenings. Our menu offering is based on the premise of "Good Food at Great Value", and every day there are specials. As much as it is in our culture to provide a relaxed, friendly, and musical environment, mainly in the evenings from Thursday to Sunday, our venue also offers many different dynamics! One just needs to be at a Sharks or International Rugby Game, watching on our many big screens, a normal Sunday Lunch with the family, or enjoying one of our quiz nights to really experience it. We understand fully, “it is the attitude and personality of our diverse customer base which brings the awesome vibe and atmosphere to our business, and unique venue”. Being in the kiddie zone herself, Diane (the Owner) has focused a lot on the dynamic of the young family market, this has brought the new Kiddie Area at the Dam alive with the sound of happy children (and Parents!). We very much believe that Music is an important key to our atmosphere, festivity and happiness – and... we dance a lot!
Old North Karibu Is available as a functions venue. As you can see from the gallery we have hosted a wide number of diverse functions. From Birthday Parties to After Funeral Events, Irish Wakes and special Corporate Functions, and even Medieval Days and Mini Festivals. In saying so it is entirely up to the discretion of Old North Karibu as to whether the function is suitable to the venue. Availability is also an important factor and in so saying ample notice must be given, although we always try to make a plan. Special requests can be enquired about and Diane is open to discussions, and we will go the extra mile to make your day special. Diane. has owned her own Customer Service Training Company, two Restaurants and Concrete Company in the past. She decided to relocate from Margate to be nearer to Shane and Leigh-ann who owns Rock Pots and Modastone in Salt Rock, and her Grandchildren Kayden & Caylea. It was during an “impromptu” Sunday Lunch late in November that the Old North deal for was done, and Diane took over the business on 5 December 2017. Diane’s is extremely customer oriented and therefore has high demands in terms of her staff supplying superior service. Our Team Diane acknowledges that she is supported buy one of the best teams in the business. “My staff understands who pays for their existence, and that we do not just do good food or serve liquor through the Pub. We work to strive for a superior customer experience through every encounter and it is part of our culture and is ongoing. Our Kitties Two kittens were dumped with us just after we took over. They won the hearts of almost everyone and are very attached to the children – don’t be surprised when they are seen on joining the kids on the trampoline or Adventure Centre. Their names are Gin (the more friendly and stripped one), and Tonic (who more mottled, and has striking green eyes). The Names Di brings this concept with her from a previous Restaurant where they started with just the names of a family. She opened the names to all customers and felt that particularly with Old North Karibu’s excellent and historical social environment, and for posterity dynamics amongst families and friends, the names would fit in perfectly on the walls and beams of the Deck and Restaurant. This concept has mushroomed giving the opportunity to all customers for “a little piece of ownership” in a place where they feel at home and where they are aware that their patronage is considered to be a privilege. Please ask your waiter about this.
